Benjamin Allan

My name is Benjamin Allan. I am a candidate for Saanich Council and am very excited at the opportunity to represent you.

 

Let me tell you a little about myself.

I am 35 years old. My wife and I have a two-year-old daughter and currently life in the Braefoot community. I have been proud to call Saanich my home for over 25 years, having previously lived in Cordova Bay and Uptown areas. 

 

My priorities for Saanich include:

• Development of high density housing which I believe will lead to increased housing affordability for students, seniors, and everyone in-between.

• Implementation of a balanced approach to development and the modernization of our local area plans. This will help to ensure we keep our green spaces and maintain the urban containment boundary.

• Adoption of the strategy used in both Victoria and Vancouver that involves having each councillor as a neighbourhood liaison. I think this will serve to increase the community engagement with Council members. If you have an issue, you can bring it to the attention of your neighbourhood liaison; this person can act as your first point of contact at Saanich Municipal Hall and help you connect with the right staff, department, or service available.

• Improvement to our road safety measures.  By improving lighting at crosswalks and along sidewalks, ensuring road paint is in good repair, and making use of improved engineering standards, we can work towards increased road safety.

 

I grew up here. I went to school here, got married here and started a family here. My wife and I want our daughter to grow up here too. I want to ensure that Saanich continues to be a vibrant and sustainable community for future generations.
